J Hazen - Jigsaw (EDIT: Final) on Vimeo

With more than a touch of the bleeps and an ample dose of what can only be called nuskool this release from J Hazen is what a lot of people would deem as perfect breaks material to unleash on the dancefloor. It's got funk, dirty bass, extra helpings of musicality, it looks to the future and salutes aspects of the past ... above all it makes people dance. There has been no obvious favourite with DJs on the initial test dispatches, both original tracks have qualities that balance out on the critical scales but 700ft may just have the edge as being a more straight up approach for some. Jigsaw is a little more intricate and asks for a bit more attention for those in it's vicinity. I'm not exagerrating when I say this - on the very first listen I knew something special and out of the ordinary was about to happen. The final stages of mastering were handled by Bil Bless (Son Of The Electric Ghost / The Disciple Grin) and even more sheen has been applied to what were already amazing sounding tracks. Then put Dave Cannon of Carbon Community into the equation on remix duties as a last minute bonus and things seem to be getting a little too much for one single. His take on 700ft is humming with a new bassline, sizzling electronic additions, what sounds like circuit bent Speak & Spell tones and rides it all on a rocking groove that takes things to another arena of breaks fans.

Jariten (Sound Of Habib) - "Simply stunned. Both cuts are equally amazing. This is why I got into breaks in the first place, and I might have needed a reminder of that. I will support this to the death."

Gooseman (Fuse / Fusetrax) - "I like 700ft! I can see me playing that, although probably early doors before I go on a silly tearout tip! "

Clodhoppa (Pointbreakz / Wuteva / BreaksFM2) - "Both tunes are really fresh and tick all the right boxes for me. Will be caining both on the radio and out when the floor is right!"

Youthful Implants
(Supatronix) - "Jigsaw is super smooth and tripped out and 700ft has the sickest second drop I've heard when the bass kicks in, its baaad."

Jody, Sunz Of Mecha (Mechanoise / BreaksFM) - "Both tracks remind me of the early days of nu skool but brought up to date, super crisp production and funky as fuck. 700ft is the track I'd play more but both of em will be in the box, er, CD wallet."

Fine Cut Bodies (Chi Recordings) - "Quality glitchy shit again from the NYC based maestro!"

Ben (Ben n Lex / Ape) - "700ft, LOVE THIS!!!!!! Will definately play this on the radio and in the clubs. Full support on this."

Lex (Ben n Lex / Ape) - "Liking Jigsaw, proper synth growler wickedness with sprinkles of musical elegance over the top. Brilliant."

Mr Sushi (Botchit & Scarper / 44) - "J Hazen makes me want to do my robot dance."

Ceos (Downbeat Productions) - "Both cuts are glitch-tastic, musical, mood based and just pure slick. The production is very tight and smooth throughtout both tracks. I liked 700ft a bit more out of the two, but you can't go wrong with either when it comes to great production and quality. This is a solid release from Hazen and I'm sure we'll see lot's more from him this year. "

High Eight (Re:Connect) - "Been a fan of J Hazen for years, and it's great to finally see some more of his music out there available. Jigsaw is a fantastic tune with the right amount of glitchiness. Great groove and tasty sounding production."

Beber (Marine Parade / Mob) - "As ever, wicked tunes - there's not many people about that can pull off that sound. Jigsaw pips it slightly for me. "

Additionally Jariten (Sound Of Habib) charted 700ft at the number one position in his Feb/March chart!!
