Breaks / downtempo artisan Sam Thorn’s interest in music composition was piqued four or five years ago, after listening to the mainstream rock band Linkin Park. In a few years, he had grown out of his rock / metal stage [thank god!] but still found that there was something in the band’s music that still fascinated him. It was the subtle electronic noises nestled comfortably in the background of the band’s tracks, most likely added as an afterthought by their producer.
Upon further investigation, however, he found there were whole genres of music out there based on these intricate bleeps and quirky sound effects. His CD collection grew from blistering breaks to badass beats, glittering ambient to smoke-shrouded chill – soon, it became clear that he had made it his mission to create some of his own. A few [horrific] tries later, he had made the first couple of Aerotake tracks, which gradually grew more sophisticated sounding and eventually earned him a spot at Virus B-23.
Now embarking on the final stretches of highschool, Aerotake is still trying to meld all of his influences together to make his own unique combination – slightly trippy, decidedly atmospheric, and ethereally introspective – whether it’s working or not is for the world to decide.
